Our history
Ai Spaghettari is a Roman restaurant, now family-run, but with ancient origins. It was born in 1896 at the behest of a group of friends who decided, in front of a nice plate of spaghetti, to found this place and call it "Ai Spaghettari" in honor of the typical pasta format of Italian cuisine. At the time it was common practice to gather in recreational clubs to participate in the most varied competitions with medals of all kinds as prizes. One of these circles was precisely that of Spaghettari.
Through four managements, the restaurant arrived by pure chance, in 1985, in the hands of the Onofri family who, seeing the announcement of the sale, immediately recognized it with enthusiasm. So Angelo Onofri with his wife Francesca, his sister Anna and his son Roberto are today the owners of "Ai Spaghettari" and transform it from an ancient recreation center with kitchen into a renowned and established restaurant of the Roman food and wine tradition.
So more than 120-year history testified to posterity also by a tapestry marked with the year 1896 present today in the room.
La nostra storia
Ai Spaghettari è un ristorante romano, oggi a conduzione familiare, ma dalle antiche origini. Nasce nel lontano 1896 per volere di un gruppo di amici che decide, davanti ad un bel piatto di spaghetti, di fondare questo locale e chiamarlo proprio “Ai Spaghettari” in onore del formato di pasta tipico della cucina italiana. All’epoca era pratica comune riunirsi in circoli ricreativi per partecipare alle gare più disparate con in premio medaglie di ogni tipo. Uno di questi circoli era proprio quello degli Spaghettari.
Attraverso quattro gestioni il locale arriva per puro caso, nel 1985, nella mani della famiglia Onofri che vedendone l’annuncio di vendita lo rileva subito con entusiasmo. Dunque Angelo Onofri con la moglie Francesca, la sorella Anna e il figlio Roberto sono oggi i proprietari de “Ai Spaghettari” e lo trasformano da antico centro ricreativo con cucina in un rinomato ed affermato ristorante della tradizione enogastronomica romana.
Quindi una storia lunga più di 120 anni testimoniata ai posteri anche da un arazzo marchiato con l’anno 1896 presente oggi nel locale.
